Welcome to Grant Memorial Library
Today’s Christians, like those who came before us, need the stimulus of books for reference, study, inspiration, and insight into Christian life and Christian experiences. A well-selected collection of books, periodicals, DVDs, Internet resources and other materials can enrich Christian growth, aid in teaching, facilitate “congregational care,” and support FUMC’s overall mission.
FUMC’s “book room,” better known as Grant Memorial Library, was established in the mid-20th century and named after Dr. Thomas M. Grant, a beloved pastor of the time. The library, which initially was located in the vicinity of what is now the Welcome Center, later moved to an upstairs room in the Education building. In fall 2009, Grant Memorial Library relocated to the church’s new Annex.
The library contains some 1,800 resources for children, youth and adults. Books for young readers offer a variety of fun and educational topics in nearly a dozen categories. See Color Coding for Children. Adult readers will find an expanding collection of fiction, non-fiction and reference materials. You can find resources for Bible study (commentaries, Bible dictionaries, maps of the Holy Land, etc.), as well as devotional and inspirational reading. There also are self-help books, biographies, books about parenting, family life and Christian living, along with many other topics—including a good selection of Christian fiction. The adult collection is classified according to the Dewey Decimal System. To see a list of the latest titles for kids, youth and adults, visit What’s New at GML.
The library also contains a reading area with table and chairs.
Grant Memorial Library is available anytime the office staff is on duty. It also is available during Bible studies, women’s studies, Logos, Terrific Tuesdays, and other times when church activities are under way. Find out How to Check out Books.
A committee oversees the library and manages circulation and inventory.
